Our History...
On January 26, 2003, Christ Fellowship was birthed in a very unusual place—an empty warehouse. Amid an abandoned building, over 400 people came together that first Sunday to form this body of believers. Walls were erected, chairs were rented, the Word was preached, and the rugged interior became a sanctuary for the glory of God. The church then moved to a senior center, which became yet another converted house of worship.
On Christmas Eve, 2003, Christ Fellowship held its first service in what is now their permanent home on Azalea Road. Construction soon began in the main building and the congregation moved into the gymnasium where, again, an empty building—this time, a basketball court—became God’s house. And once more, God blessed in obvious ways. Finally, the church family moved into the newly restored Sanctuary on December 19, 2004, a testimony to God’s faithfulness and grace.
From such humble beginnings, Christ Fellowship has lived out an important lesson—the church is not a building, but a body – the body of Christ. The church is the Lord Jesus, working in and through His people, wherever they are. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.
We Welcome You
Dear Friend:
We are delighted to have this opportunity to introduce you to Christ Fellowship Baptist Church. Moreover, we would love for you to be a regular part of what God is doing here at Christ Fellowship. To help you get to know us, this website should serve as an orientation to our church with the desire that you be drawn into our fellowship. Our name—Christ Fellowship Baptist Church—will best tell you who we are.
Christ Himself is the very life of this church. Everything in this body of believers revolves around Him. This church is His church—Christ is recognized as Lord here. He is the Alpha and Omega of our lives. He is our Savior, our Redeemer, our everything! We are a group of people who have believed upon Christ, love Christ, follow Christ, obey Christ, and serve Christ. This describes who we are—we are all about Christ!
Fellowship means “a sharing in common” and describes our common life together in Christ. As a church family, we hold in common our Lord Jesus Christ. His spiritual life pulsates through our body. His truth and love knits our hearts together. Despite our many differences of family background, education, business, and social standing, we are one in Christ.
Baptist defines our theological and historical distinctive. We are Baptists by conviction, a people who stand in a great line of people who have gone before us. This godly line can be traced back to the English Reformation of the sixteenth century. As with our forefathers, we believe in the full inspiration and authority of Scripture, salvation by grace alone, the baptism of believers only by immersion, the priesthood of believers, the eternal security of the redeemed, and more. These God-exalting truths mark our identity.
Church also describes who we are. This word—church—means,“the called out ones.” Accordingly, we are those who have been called out of darkness by the power of God into the light of His kingdom. We have been drawn by the Spirit into fellowship with Christ. We are in the world, but no longer of the world. We are the church—the called out ones.
Christ Fellowship Baptist Church—this is our name. But it is more than merely a name. We are a congregation who have been redeemed by Christ, who support one another in loving fellowship, who hold to historic Baptist tenets, and who are called out of the world to be the church of God.
Is this the kind of church of which you want to be a part? Please pray about this being your church home.
